What is Aromatherapy?

The use of aromatic plants in history dates back thousands of years.

In 4000 BC, the Sumerians used scented plants such as cypress and myrrh.In the 17th century, herbal essential oils began to be used for therapeutic purposes. However, it seems that the plants used for embalming after the death of the Pharaohs in Egypt are similar to the plants of the time. 


Aromatherapy means healing with odor molecules as word. It is used as massage, friction, inhalation, compress and bathing with the effect of the pleasant and strong smell of the essential oils and the chemicals in its composition, for the purpose of supporting health, preserving health or for cosmetic purposes.In other words, mental and physical applications made with fragrant herbal oils are called aromatherapy

 

 

It is believed that oil-soluble essential substances are directly absorbed from the skin, bronchi or directly by inhalation into the central nervous system.

Aromatherapy is effective in muscle and joint pain by providing warming and relaxation in human body with essential oils.Each essential oil has effects on different problems such as mental, physical, muscle contraction and difficulty of breathing.

Aromatherapy is a natural, protective and supportive treatment that makes people feel healthy and fit.The most important qualification of the aromatherapy method is to accelerate the physical defense mechanisms of the body and making treatment as whole.


 

Oils Used in Aromatherapy

Essential oils obtained by distillation from the parts of the plant such as flowers, leaves, rhizomes and shells, and fixed oils obtained by cold press from the seeds, kernels and fruits of the plant are used. 
 

Who is suitable for Aromatherapy?Are There Side Effects?

Essential oils are not used directly as they can irritate the skin.It should be diluted with carrier oils.Oils should not contact with the eyes when massaging.There is a possibility of adverse effects in children.Children and pregnant women should use essential oils with caution and after consultation with specialist health personnel.

It is not recommended for pregnant women to use essential oils in the first 4 months.
